Willamette Week, one of Portland's weekly papers and my long-time employer, published my feature story on Oregon's medical marijuana growers today. Coffee: the black blood of modern life. For those of us who, like me, cannot begin a day without a massive tankard of steaming caffeine, it's a fascinating subject. For others, it's either a wicked intoxicant, a symptom of globalized injustice, or both. My recent alt-weekly feature story on Portland's remarkable gourmet coffee revolution completely ignored one of these two points of view. Can you guess which?
